      What do I use in the lower unit? grease like 105 or 80-90 oil

        I can’t remember now exactly what type seals were in that gearcase, but I am pretty sure that Lubriplate 105 is the best choice.

          The lube you need to use is dependent on the wear/tolerances of the propshaft and the pinion shaft, but mostly the propshaft bearing. If there is significant wear (slop) then you’d need something that won’t rapidly flow out, i.e. “heavier” grease. 105 is pretty thin.

              In my PO-15, I have used water-resistant grease marketed for boat trailer wheel bearings. Yes that grease was thick -it looked like Lubraplate 105 – may have been the same thing rebranded. I made an adapter so I can pump it in from the cartridge with a grease gun. First I took the lower unit apart and cleaned out all the old gunk and some rust. Who knows what was put in it over the years.

                I use Corn Head grease in my PO with great results.
