I had made a post asking about a 1948 TD-20. My ignorance (and the seller) led me astray, and it was actually a 1951 TN-27.

I got some new leather seals from Lloyd and a slow idle needle from a used boat store and she started right up. I also cleaned the carb while I had it off for the seals.

Unfortunately, I replaced the lower unit oil (it was mostly empty…) with Lubriplate 105 while I thought it was a TD-20. Still figuring if it will be OK or if I need to flush it from 90w gear oil. Getting mixed answers when searching Google.

I’d go with gear oil as the TN has seals on both the prop and drive shafts.  The Lubriplate and Cornhead greases are usually used where no seal are used.

Might as well get some use out of the Lubriplate that’s already in there. For what it’s worth, switch over to 90W after running it for a while, maybe at the end of the season. Doesn’t seem as though flushing it would be necessary. It will self flush with oil changes.

Thanks. That is where my research took me. I’ll run it as is and change to gear oil later. Thanks for the info!

Might not hurt to put a couple of ozs of oil in just to cover your bases
