      Good evening fellow members,
I have an issue with my TN-28 motor leaking gas from the carburetor. When sitting in the garage with the fuel valve off, it would continuously leak from the carburetor top plate gasket and then down the carb onto the floor. I have replaced the primer leather washers from Lloyd Lautner, what a great guy by the way, we talked for about an hour and he has serious passion and knowledge about these engines. Sadly, I have lost his email and phone number.

Back to the point: I removed all of the fuel lines to the shut off valve and low and behold it still leaks even when turned off. Does anyone know how to acquire or repair this valve? I think this would solve the problem of this leaky engine.

I’ve never tried it,but others have said they had success taking the valve apart putting a mild abrasive in it and lapping the parts for a better fit.

          Stanley,
I had no idea what "lapping" was until I did some research. I and used some old car polish laying around the garage and continuously loaded up both ends with polish and kept increasingly tightening the valve until it seated and untightening the valve. Amazingly, it worked! Nicely done and thanks for the great tip!!

If the end of the fuel tap is grooved or damaged, you might have to chuck it up and spin it.
