Open it up so we can see and learn.
July 23, 2015 at 12:45 pm #20693😎 Maybe it is a electric fish stunner disguised as a running outboard motor. Man, no need for bait. It also probably powers the electric fish fryer on the boat too. That is one interesting motor. I ‘ll give you $50 bucks for it.
July 23, 2015 at 7:46 pm #20716The gearcase don’t look to be the original one modified…
I suppose it is a specific casting…
But a mold isn’t justified for a single motor…
July 24, 2015 at 3:07 am #20743Thanks for posting my pix, I was confused when I couldn’t view them on preview. So I put her on the bench and noticed there was no spark plug, and the recoil was stuck. Also no sign of oil or dirt on the engine. The prop spun freely like an electric fan, so I guess there are no gears in the L/U. I shot the recoil with a little WD-40, installed a J6C, primed with fuel and she popped. Added fuel to the tank and ran it for 30 seconds and I smelled burnt paint. Put it in the tank and it runs OK and pumps water. Someone wired the motor to run off the mag lever at WOT. The carb linkage touches a switch button. I connected the alligator leads to a deep cell and got nothing. I’d like to ask the previous owner…Why? Can anyone speculate on that?
July 24, 2015 at 6:06 am #20745Now I’m confused.
In your original post you say the gas engine runs fine but now you say it has no spark plug?????
Did the prop turn when you did get the powerhead fired up?
It could be one of those new German built six plus horsepower electrics disguised as a Johnson!
July 24, 2015 at 1:20 pm #20749Mumbles; The spark plug was missing. Compression was 40. After treating it with Seafoam it jumped up to 85. I’ll try to take the L/U apart today and post some pix.
July 24, 2015 at 3:08 pm #20756I took it apart but stopped at the drive gear shear pin. It seems too long, touches housing and stops. Motor was full of water as was gearcase as you can see.
July 24, 2015 at 3:23 pm #20757July 24, 2015 at 4:02 pm #20759Pretty crazy. Looks like someone put in a lot of thought and effort into it. Could it be a factory proto? Whats the serial#? It’s a brushed motor so I guess it doesnt matter if its submerged, although it seems contrary to common sense.
July 25, 2015 at 3:53 am #20805Serial number is E3532314. I have a few things to wrap up before I go "up Nort" next week but I’ll clean the motor and check with an ohmmeter when I return. If I can get it to run maybe I’ll understand how it works. Maybe the shaft pulls away from the gears when it’s energized. Or I can look for a stock lower unit.
