I just bought a 1926 Johnson A 25 it tested bad coil across the plug wires. I took the tar off of the coil and plug connection the mag tested ok. Question what size plug wire ? ( 9 mm) how do I make the connection between the coil tabs and the spark plug wires ? When I pried the tar off of the connection the 2 cone springs were ruined. (tested 8 ohm. )

        I have a J-25 that I haven’t gotten around to
so I don’t know what’s in there but in this
1923 Model A a bit of the insulation is removed
so some wire sticks out and they’re positioned
so they push against the tabs.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

You actually need the ‘tar’ in there. It’s an insulator that prevents the spark from the coil going to the mag plate. The wires are simply pressed against the tabs.

I used one of these electrical connectors that fit and crimped it on. You may get a better connection if your good at soldering.

You can use a wire terminal like that but don’t they to be bent 90° to work right? I’m sure I’ve seen them prebent on Ebay or somewhere.
