      I picked up a cheap 1940 DT-10 parts motor as I thought
it was the same basic motor as the froze up
      1938 DT-38 and LT-38 Johnson’s I have.
Found out today the latter two are 4.2 hp with
a cast block, and the prior is a completely different
looking aluminum block, rated at 5 hp.

Looks like my best bet is to fix up the 1940 DT-10.
It has the tiller arm broke off, but the DT-38 "may"
have the same bracket, but it looks like the power head
      may have to come off.

Just wondering if anyone has parts manuals for the two
different years Johnson so I may compare which parts are
      interchangeable.
      Thanks!

Garry, that a nice looking manual cover 🙂

I stripped the DT-10 and discovered that the broken tiller casting is
part of the casting of the swivel tube
below the power head. Just have to hope that the
swivel tube (or the whole lower unit) will work on from the DT-38.

The coil seems okay and makes a nice spark on the Stevens at 1.2 amps,
although I have no idea what the specs may be.
It’s a similar type ignition system as the HD-15 Johnson I have that
runs very erratic, being a single coil that fires alternately via
a grounding system…… never did get that one running right.
Hope I have better luck with this one!
