I have a couple of decal questions. I found a couple of outlets for decals and am confused. AmericanOutboard has decals for my 4261 1938 Elto Handitwin that are blue decals then changed to Gold in 1939. Does anyone have pics of a 1938 with blue decals? I’ve only seen Gold. NYMarine has tan/black decals for all the Handitwins which doesn’t seem correct. My second question pertains to my KA37 decals. My motor has the decal that wraps around the tank and the S&O decals are on the front small square sections of the tank. I’ve seen 1937 motor pics with decals with the S&O at the end of the main decal. Any idea of what is correct?

January 23, 2021 at 6:13 pm #228595Thanks for the reply Tubs, I have read Davids posts and although both his and my motors are KA37 his has the rear plugs and a rear compression relief and his tank decal is the wrap around with the S&O instructions at the ends of the side decal. Mine has the side plugs and the decal has a pic of a sea horse at the end of the decal and S&O on the front two panels of the tank. Also where his motor has the exhaust relief mine has part of a gasket and one bolt threaded into the top hole of the 3 holes. My KS15 has a plate that is bolted to cover the exhaust hole. Any thoughts on that? As for your pic of the Handitwin…is that a 1938? That appears to be the decal coloring that NYMARINE sells (tan and black).Haven’t checked out Dixies oldoutboards decals yet to see what he has. Seems that there are 3 different color available…tan/black,blue and gold…..still confused…lol
January 23, 2021 at 10:31 pm #228633A few years ago it was mentioned here that it was suspected the manufacturers would change the decals part way thru a model run. That way you would have two same year and model motors but with different style original tank decals on them.
When I first got my KA-37, I could just make out remnants of the original S/O decals on the front of the tank. The replacement decal for it, which hasn’t been applied yet, has the same separate S/O decals for the front of the tank. If you see a tank with a one piece decal on it, it could be correct to as the motor may have come from the factory with two or more different decal styles in the same year.
January 23, 2021 at 10:51 pm #228638Thanks Mumbles, The KA37 is pretty straight forward…I’m just going to get the gold 3 piece set which is what’s on it now. The big question for me is the Handitwin. In it’s past life someone painted the tank, clamp brkt, rear resting pins and the gear case a limeish-yellowish-green color then put some gold Elto decals on it so I really have no idea what the original color decals were from the factory. Tubs showed a pic with the tan/black decals like NYMARINE sells. Americanoutboard sells a blue set and a gold set. I’m in the process of rebuilding the magneto and cleaning the rusty steel tank so I can get it running…then I’ll worry about the cosmetics.
January 23, 2021 at 11:06 pm #228643I’m pretty sure the Elto Pals had different color decals for each year they were produced so it could be the same with the Handitwin to. Someone here has shown the different Pal decals before but I’m not sure who it was.

January 24, 2021 at 12:12 pm #228673things sure have changed…. when my round glued on…BRP crest fell off my ETEC 75HP…. BRP would not give me one & wanted $$$ for a new one.
My dealer himself realized it was a rip off so he graciously took one out of stock and claimed BRP for a missing crest on a new engine 🙂
now even he is gone…..:-(
