Is this hole on the top of the lower unit supposed to be there to drain out water? I know the lower one on the side is, but am not sure about the upper one that is draining out oil mixed with water. Both holes are draining oil water mix. I am assuming the drive shaft seal under the impeller  needs to be replaced? I am replacing the prop seal also while it is apart.  Also was wondering if that which is draining  is just from the what ends up being dirty filthy oil water from running it in the test barrel, but I don’t think so. I only ran it a couple of minutes, and the water wasn’t That Dirty! See picture below.  Aslo, I can’t get the top cylinder to stop misfiring. The new points are flush, and it is timed with a timing tool. I replaced the spark plug wire also. Wondering if the coil is throwing intermitten spark? Thank you so much for anyone of you that can help. sincerely, John V

if your GC oil  is not contaminated with water    those holes are just  GC drains  and seals are ok

recheck the points could be bad condenser

dirty bucket water is normal for a 2 stroke

thank you for your help. please forgive me, as this is the first time I have used aomci to ask a question and was having trouble using it , sorry about that. I have new GC oil in it that i put in after I went through the gear case, which was all in very nice shape, the gears clutch dog, etc. And that was my thought to about maybe a bad condenser. I put in 2 new ones, but that doesn’t mean much depending on where they were made. I will put back on of the old ones. Both cylinders had spark before I changed them, but being that i had new ones, i put them in. I am assuming it is the top cylinder, because that plug gets fouled. The bottom plug stays nice and white and clean. Both plugs are new. Thank you so much for your patience with me and for your help. So much appreciated.  sincerely,  john v

Plug stays nice and white and clean, eh?  That probably is the one not firing.  It could also mean it is getting water into the cylinder.

Wow, yes, good point. I rebuilt the motor with new pistons, rings, had the head and block resurfaced ( only slightly was all that was needed) and new head gasket, so am not worried about water. I had a very hard time with new china made points getting them to match up. I had a pair of points made in turkey, and that is the top cylinder that i guess like you said, is most likely the one that IS firing. It was darkened some.  I will replace the bottom cylinder points again because like you said, that is the one probably NOT firing. Thank you so much.  I need a lesson in Common sense here!  I am so greatful for all of the knowledge you all have here at AOMCI.  My GC oil is all milky, so I am going to replace the prop seal and lower drive shaft seal.  I drained some out, and its milky. I had put in new oil before i ran it, so, i am getting water into the GC. Thank you soo much,  sincerely,  john v

When you had the powerhead apart for the rebuild, did you also replace the O-ring in the crankshaft lower carbon seal?

What oil mix are you running through it?

When I run mine on 16 to 1 it gets slobbery like that.

Took it fishin on a lake with a speed restriction, it

loaded up pretty good so I goosed the throttle for

a short burst. You’d a thought someone puked behind

                  the boat.
