I can’t seem to find a color ad, or b&w for that matter,
of a Johnson HD-25.
Just wondering what all is suppose to be painted silver? It appears that the gas tank mount (that has "Stop, Slow,
Start, Fast" cast in it) was painted silver on the outer,
visible portion, and perhaps the mag advance lever.
Anything else?
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!
March 3, 2017 at 5:45 pm #53766Hey Buc. The two colors are Sea Mist Green and Dull Aluminum. You are correct on that the tank mount base is Dull Aluminum only on the visible portion. The non-visible portion is Sea Mist Green. The mag advance lever is also Dull Aluminum on the aluminum "handle" part. The steel lever part I don’t think was painted at the factory, but I prefer to paint it to prevent rust, plus it looks better painted. That’s it for Dull Aluminum parts.
I have had good success with the Reprotint Paint. It is expensive, but so much work goes into a good paint job that it would be a shame to use cheap paint and see it get ruined.

March 3, 2017 at 8:47 pm #53771Here are before and after photos of my HD-25. I have used both the Reprotint paint: http://www.effenaco.com/store/home.php and NY Marine paint: http://www.nymarine.ca Both are good paints. I did not paint the aluminum on my motor.

Nice looking HD Steve!
I have used Reprotint paint on my Chris Craft and recently
on my 54 Fleetwin. Agree that it goes on very nice.
I think I can get by with one can of paint for the little HD.
Do you concur?Prepare to be boarded!

March 4, 2017 at 11:43 am #53797Is the tank decal depicted in the parts book accurate? I have never seen the decal with the 2 1/2 in the back corner before.
March 4, 2017 at 11:57 am #53798That’s interesting. I’ve never seen that decal either, and my parts manual does not show it or list it.
March 4, 2017 at 12:04 pm #53799Jeff,
Ben Dittmar made a a video of a 1950 HD-25 with the decal as shown in the parts catalog. 2 1/2 in the back corner on the port side of the motor.
