      Hi All,

I have 2 carburetors for a Johnson HD25, hoping to use one of them on my motor. I can’t get the washers out of either carb. I’ve tried various kinds of penetrating oil (Liquid Wrench, Kroil, Deep Creep etc), 50/50 acetone and automatic transmission fluid, carb cleaner, and tapping with a hammer and punch as well as heat from a torch. They’ve actually soaked in these various fluids for going on a couple years or more now and I more or less moved on to other projects but now I really want to get this motor running. These things just don’t budge. Any other tips or tricks I can try to get them loose short of damage or destruction? I’m getting to my wit’s end on these. Thank you.

Did you get the brass washer out that’s “atop” of the leather washers?
Here’s everything you need to know about these carbs…..

Thank you. No I have not. I can’t get any of them out. My last resort is to cut away the side of 1 carb to pry them out and grind the washers out of the other carb. Then I’ll have 1 of each that I need. I’ve worked on these motors before (3 TD20’s and 1 LT10). But never have I had so much trouble trying to get these washers out.

Run a tap into them, then a bolt to pull them out.

That would pretty much roach the washers right? Never thought of freezing them though.

Just threading the tap in and using vice grips to pull it out, always worked for me.Done properly nothing is damaged.

I cant tell from your post if you have the sleeve out yet?
This video shows what has worked for me.
Maybe there is something in it that you can use.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Look several posts down about the HD25 by  Don 21.  My new leather primer seals come with instructions and diagrams that  explain how to replace the seals. The 1/2×13 tap will remove the brass sleeve  etc.  etc.  I  am happy to report that in over 20 years I have never had a person that couldn’t do the job.  The Poche website is great help, but please note that the ad posted there for my primer seals is about 15 years old and states they are $8.00 per set.  I had to raise the price to $10.00 a few years ago. Getting hard to find the proper leather to make new seals.
