The adjustable front prop shaft bushing is held in place by a set screw on the side of the removable front casting. This set screw is inside of a cover that looks like a set screw on the side of the front casting. The bushing adjustment determines the gear lash and It is adjusted by the set screw in the very front of the casting and this set screw is kept from moving by the aluminum lock nut on the front.
When assembling, adjust the bushings’ front set screw so the gears are not too loose or too tight and the driveshaft turns smooth. Then tighten the big lock nut. Check the gear mesh again. Then gently tighten the side set screw and install its cover. Do not tighten the side set screw too much or the bushing will squeeze onto the prop shaft hindering its movement.
