Johnson KD15 doesn’t turn all the way over

I have a 1948 KD15 I got from my uncle after he passed. I had no idea if it ran when put away or not. Well turning the flywheel it would only travel so far then stop. I dissembled it today, cleaned the cylinders. The head was chock full of rust bits, but the cylinder wasn’t too bad. I can see that someone had beat on the piston, at one time. Even after putting it all together that piston won’t travel all the way to the top. My guess is something bent, I am pretty confident that the cylinder is smooth and the piston looks okay.

Long story short I would love to see someone use these parts. I have a complete motor except for the gas tank which I want to keep and put on a shelf as a memento of my Aunt and uncle.

I am not looking for money, maybe just shipping cost. Or I can meet someone in Maine or New Jersey (I travel for work once a month).
Thanks for all the info I got, took a while but I was able to figure out the model/year. Great fun, wish I could have succeeded in getting it running.

I was wondering if freezing water could have distorted the cylinder wall? Did you run the other piston in that cylinder to check that the cylinder is ok?
