I’ve got a Johnson lt-10 ready to got but have a coil problem . It doesn’t meter out properly and when I test it with a coil tester it jumps across the two metal pieces on the top of the coil as apposed to in window of tester . Anyone know of a alternate coil that would work or have a serviceable spar they would sell ?

Does your coil have the two high tension terminals on it like this one? If it’s arcing across those, I’d say your coil is good. Really good! These two terminals are joined together internally and are the ends of the secondary windings. How much current are you running thru the primary windings?

I wouldn’t say it looks like that . There is two long pieces of metal that come off the top and there is these two triangle pieces attached with screws that point toward the middle from each side, I should try and figure out how to post picture .

          Thanks

Look closely. The coil is basically the same with added appliances for the wipers. If you follow from the wipers down to the coil…IIRC…there are two solid wires that attach to the coil aproximately the same spot.

Either way those coils are fairly bullet proof. My guess is its good.

            Hope it helps!

From time to time I have had a bad
                one. Experimenting I adapted some
                OMC coils. Works well.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I don’t see the spark, but it may be a carbon track. On a light colored surface, these look like a crack. These develop from oil and dust on the insolation. Clean it up and scrape the carbon off and then paint it with dielectric (non-conducting) paint. If you don’t scrape it all off, the high voltage will burrow under the paint. . . 😉
