Just picked up a pair of Johnson’s from the 1920s. One is clearly labeled AB-25, while the other only has only “B 11894” on the flywheel. The two are identical except the AB has a bronze lower unit. If 11894 is the serial number, that makes it 1924, so is this possibly a model BN? Is the model number anywhere else on the motor?
      Thanks!

        Good morning
Congrats on finding 2 early Johnsons.
The B is an early version of a motor for use in salt water. 1924 sounds about right without my book in front of me.
        The AB25 started in 1925.
The serial numbers were also stamped on the underside of the crankcase by the cylinder flange.
Early Johnsons are some of the best running antique outboards IMHO.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
