I had 3 coils in my pile and none tested ok. Anyone here knows where I could have my coils rewound? If not I am looking for a good P35 coil.
      Thanks

Unless you absolutely must have an original coil, you can convert others to work.Search “coil conversion” on this forum, for lots of info.

There is a surplus coil that works for opposed Twins. You have to remove your old coil from the laminates and put the new coil on them. Rewinding would probably be the most expensive way to go. Electronic ignition, your on your own with that kind of conversion.
How did you test them? Those Johnson coils very seldom go bad, unusual to have 3 bad ones.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I can understand testing coils, but I tend to ignore test results if the thing works when on a magneto plate and the flywheel is spun over.

I have 6 Johnson coils that are loose because they are spares that were re scued from scrap motors. They all pass the primary resistance test. The only one that passes a continuity test is one that has never been used, the others all test to indicate there is no continuity between the secondary leads. The five used coils that fail testing all run motors beautifully. The NOS one isn’t going to get tested on a motor until I get desperate. Same for all my Lockwood Chiefs. None of those Eisemann coils meet anything other than primary resistance check, but they all run the motors they are one. For how long? Maybe another 5 minutes, maybe another 5 years. Dunno, but they will probably fail eventually, but I will bet its not till after I don’t own the motor anymore.Just sayin. Hope it helps.

Thanks all. I ll try tubs s recommendation. I did test the coils with the mercotronic tester. I never got a spark on the indicator… I tested good PO coils to make sure the set up was correct. By 2 amps the PO coils fired steadily. Not the P35 coils..

What common COIL should I buy? Can I keep my .4mF condenser that I just installed?

                      What’s an U2? I can’t quite read the flywheel…… neat looking motor!

                      Prepare to be boarded!
