The coil Tubs just posted it the one I was referring to. I have read that they fit better than the universal coils, and you only need one.
If they were mine I would test each one on the motor and see what I get.

I’ve used both types of coils in conversions. The OMC coils have a slightly larger “hole”,the laminates are easier to remove .The P35 coil and mag plate are big so I don’t think you would have “fit “ issues. The military coil is pretty compact so it will definitely fit.The laminates can be a chore to remove, but it makes for less wiring splicing.I always seem to get a better spark out of the military coils.

Thanks, I’ll try both coils. The OMC CD and the military one.
I wonder however what condenser to use. Is it coils specific? The P35 calls for a .4 uF

The laminates are long and quite wide almost 3/4 x 3/4. Lots of filing. It’s not square so there will be airspace between the laminates and the new coil. And due to filling there will also be air space between the coil laminates and the heels. Not sure if that’s an issue.. we’ll see

I did omc coil swap to a K-80 Johnson, it’s alternate firing so only one coil per laminate but the space between heels and coil doesn’t seem to matter.

My laminates are 3/4. Isn’t there another replacement coil with a larger core I could use ?
It’s a waste to grind all that material away…

I have done this and it really didn’t take too long. I would not call it a waste of time or effort if it makes the motor run again.

Could you make new laminates using strips the right width?

As far as other coils with a bigger hole, you would have to go out and search. There are many coils that could be used. I’ve heard of lawn mower coils being used, maybe there is just the right one but so far we haven’t found it. But once you modify it with these new coils, either one, it will put last us I’m sure.
