I tried using the search function but did not give me the needed info…
Looking for the mix formula for green used on johnson rd/rde-17 – I think 1956-57-59 (?)
I guess there is also an off white that goes with it too—-
(if I only have the color name– will my paint guy know how to look that up ? or do I need the actual proportions.. ? — im thinking yes… )
Can anyone supply a link for these ?Thank you-
TimMay 31, 2016 at 4:05 am #37427reprotint has replacement paint, as well as NYmarine out of canada. If you don’t have a gravity fed paint gun, you’ll need someone with some experience to repaint your motors since these sources sell it by the quart (generally about $60-80/quart). The stuff in the cans (if available) is a lesser quality option…just make sure you spend 85% of your time on the prep stage (cleaning up, sanding, priming, taping off, etc).
If you go to the members section there is a whole area on restorations with much more info than what I could ever offer!

I will web-search those two paint hits ! Thank you !
Yes- I grew up restoring classic cars- so I got paint guns ! I would probably use the hardener and gloss addative that Tractor supply sells for
tractor enamels. It makes for less overspray and makse the paint a lot harder and tougher after about 3 months when its FULLY cured.
I wouldnt even consider a rattle can. They aernt allowed to use fully effective solvents (EPA) in rattle can anything (including chromate)
so the final product seems to have piss poor adhesion compared to liquid-in-a-can automotive style paints.
Thanks- i will look those up !
Tim

I see I need to become a member here !May 31, 2016 at 3:07 pm #37451I would go with rthe reprotint. It’s a perfect match to the original color and the price is a little more reasonable.
May 31, 2016 at 8:10 pm #37455I have used a lot of paint from nymarine. Good product.

Not sure where you got that from? Think you may have it backwards. Im not trashing reprotints paint at all, heard nothing but good things about him and his product. I would like to buy and try a bunch of colours he has….but NYMarine paint is not more expensive.
A pint of paint at repro is $47.95 US, NyMarine pint is $37.95 Cdn, or only $28.97 US.
12 oz spray can at reprotint is $19.95 US, NyMarine is $15.95 Cdn, or $12.18 US
June 1, 2016 at 10:12 am #37509You’re in Canada, right? If thats the case, then yea NY will be your best bet. I repainted the lower unit on my 1955 RD-17 a little while back, after I re-sealed it and the color matched the original paint on the exhaust housing, very nicely. I was very impressed
I have had great results with NY’s products, as well. Don’t get me wrong. -
