Hi everyone I have a couple of questions on my 1961 Johnson 40hp. First time with this motor doing gearcase work.
See link below for my model.

1 initial inspection of the bearings looked good. However as soon as I started to place the oil seal #22…. A broke pinion bearing fell out then a bunch more fell out. #32
Here is the part it will obviously need a replacement… http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC0376856
Can I just pull the old out and hammer in the replacement gently or is there a special tool?
2. The brass bushing. …http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC0304765
Special tool again to remove or anyone come up with a good size rod to hammer it out?
3. Last question on the prop shaft seal. I pulled out the old one and it had a rubber gasket all around the press in shaft seal. But the replacement seirra one does not. Part #35

I can’t figure out which way the new oil seal fits in. I’m assuming the cup faces in toward the oil. With the retaining spring facing in. But the new part has a slight beveled edge that suggest it’s installed reverse direction of the old one? Anyone come across this.
Thank all for your tips
