      Sealed bearings are not shielded bearings!—Two different items.
      And David Bartlett, the fuel mixture does not pass through those bearings. Originally they were greased.The bottom one has a felt wick and condensation created when running has a tendency to settle in the bottom bearing, which is not good long term.
      I suggest and use sealed bearings.

        I did buy sealed bearings. They probably didn’t have reliable seals in 1929.
