September 20, 2023 at 9:08 pm #280812I wonder how the scan quality is. They certainly have a nicely done website and they certainly have a lot of manuals to offer. It will be interesting what sort of experience spending money with them will be.
It will also be interesting to see whether their “goods” show up for free once they get digital copies “out there”….
September 21, 2023 at 8:15 am #280815can’t vouch for their quality… I have the file, the original book and another  good….. locally printer one from G.SPencer’s link now R.I.P.
link posted just as fyi

September 21, 2023 at 10:10 am #280833Maybe a dumb question, but why isn’t the red book added to the inner sanctum as downloadable file? Because of copyright infringement?
September 21, 2023 at 10:28 am #280835it was available but G.SPencer’s link is shut down by dropbox ???
q: who do we ask  who has copyrights to a 75 year old book ??

September 21, 2023 at 11:01 am #280839I’m aware Gary’s dropbox link is down, and I downloaded the Red Book some time ago.
The reason I’m asking is that I too was wondering if there is still copyright on these old books. If that’s not the case I think having a library on the site from which members can download documents (such as the Red Book, but perhaps also service/part/owner’s manuals) would be very helpful to most members. It’s shouldn’t be too complicated to add a document download section to the site. People ask for manuals on the forum all the time, and there are many posts from Crosbyman for example, explaining how to download the Red Book form Gary’s dropbox. I think this could be a valueable addition to the site.Just a thought….
September 21, 2023 at 11:38 am #280842the question lingers… what happened to the GS library and is GS still around ??? …to fix it ??

September 21, 2023 at 1:03 pm #280844Crosbyman, how much was it to print?
I would love to get my PDF printed.
Thanks,
Bob DSeptember 21, 2023 at 9:15 pm #280849If memory serves me correctly, there is no issue with posting the pdf copies of these old service/parts manuals. To my knowledge the manufacturers did not copyright the service manuals back then. As an example I just took a quick look at the first and last 20 pages of the Johnson Red Book (thank you Chuck/Seakaye) and there is no copyright on it. Other than the “Clymer” type manuals, I don’t remember seeing copyrights on any of the OLD stuff. Recently however, manufacturers have been copyrighting these materials so end users have a very difficult time attempting repairs. But to my knowledge that is only over the last 15 or 20 years, if that long.
Additionally, even if the material in question is found to be copyrighted, I would think an argument could be made that the ‘use’ of the publication fits into the research exemption to copies/distribution?
Just my .02 cents. I had a tiny bit of experience with this in a past life, could be remembering incorrectly tho’.
