Hi Guys, I have 2 motors with issues I’m wondering if I can combine to make one good one. I have a 67 FD 21 with a questionable power head. I also have a 69 25hp with a cracked lower unit. Can I bolt the 69 power head onto the 67 pan and lower? Will it all bolt up? Also, will the electric starter and bracket fit the 25?

I think I would try bolting the 67 gearcase to the 69 powerhead exhaust housing. Not sure about the older electric start fitting the newer powerhead, the ring gears changed slightly. But, it only takes a few minutes to bolt that up as well, surely worth a try.

The changes to get 25hp include exhaust tuning in the "leg", so it would be better to keep the head and leg together.

I can see both of your points. The 25 is a long shaft, the 20 is a short. I need to end up with a short. So if I just swap the lower onto the 25 I’ll have to do driveshaft and water tube as well. I’ll have to look it all over real good tonight. I think I can just remove the extension housing on the 25 if I remember right.

If it is a factory long shaft, the lower shift rod will have to be changed. Or cut off exactly 5" and file a new notch exactly 5" for the connector bolt. Water tube is no problem to pull out and replace.
