      Recently acquired another HD25 as a parts motor or a “maybe” runner. When I disassembled the crankcase & cylinder assembly the journal bearings look way different than my other motor. If you can see the photo, the top journal bearing is shorter and there is a steel ring and seal of some sort on the crankshaft. Nothing like this shows in my manuals or parts diagrams. Do you think this was a local fix to repair the crankcase sealing, or do I need to get an updated manual? Thanks for any advice.

        That ring is called a slinger. It’s job is to sling off the oil that has leaked out past the bearing. The oil is then sucked back down into the crankcase. Having said that, I really don’t know if that system was ever used on the HD-25. But it was used on a bajillion motors since then,
