Found this in recycle out here on Whidbey Island. For $10 I thought I would rescue it and see what it was. Only ident I can read is on a brass plug, stbd side on the crankcase. Top number is 463 and below that is 50244. Also a casting number on the cylinder reading 102128 with some sort of triangle mark below that. I can’t read what is left of the decal on the tank. Being new to this old engine thing I haven’t a clue as to what it is. I am sure a few thousand of you out there can fill me in.

Looks to have been disassembled as there is a small bag which includes such important parts as piston, rod, points, condenser, etc. I have no plans to try to restore it but if anyone needs parts PM me and I can send things along where they are needed. Reading what I wrote maybe I should have put this in classified. Started out just wanting to find out what it was but got talkative. I don’t want to retype all this so maybe a moderator can move it if they think it should be moved.

463 seems to point to a ’39 Viking 1.8-hp. From the Evinrude/Elto family, I believe.

You are sharper than I was. I didn’t relate it to Viking. But the model number 463 does come up in the Evinrude list as a 1940 1.8hp. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t produced for Eatons Viking. Another list shows a 1939 Viking 1.8 as being model 465

With what is left of the decal now that I know what it might look like it definitely is a Viking. Thanks for your help guys, I think for now it will just be hung on the wall in the ‘barn’. The only thing that looks remotely serviceable is the gas cap.

Neat find. Looks like it’s too nice not to get running!

Frank, you’re right as usual. My fingers failed me ! 1940 matches what Peter Hunn published ( my bible).

Yep – page 263 in the third addition of Peter Hunn’s "the Old Outboard Book". . . 😀
