Don’t that just burn your wagon when you buy new parts that are NFG?   I have had a coil and several condensers and that’s no fun!    Glad you got it figured out.   Bytheway nice looking outfit there!    I know well it was a lot of work.  I did mine a couple years ago, never again will I do another.

One time, I wrote to CDI and asked where their coils like that were made. The answer I got was “I have no idea where our coils are made.” In other words, China, just like the rest of the junk out there. Except CDI charges more.

          Long live American manufacturing!

Bill that is such bull that they don’t know where it’s made! I worked for a company for 22 years that imported mens clothing from all over the world. That is the first point that is established with the production team.
I would have told the moron to ask his buying department to pull the purchase order.
You are probably absolutely correct in your assessment that no knowledge……..equals China.

As someone who takes motors to run away from home I
have experienced your disappointment when “the plan”
goes up in smoke and the frustration that you can’t resolve
the issue because you have what you need to resolve the
issue but its too far away. People shop for price before
quality so its difficult for a supplier to provide a superior
product if it doesn’t sell. If its not selling the manufacture
stops making it. The end result is its is all you can get.
Because its all you can get the cheap’ie sells. There is no
motivation to make something better. The points for the
universal mag also comes to mind.
I must say your boat and motor restoration looks fantastic.
Were they ever that nice when new?
That wasn’t accomplished in a few week ends. I hope you
get to enjoy what you have so much time ( and I suspect
many $ ) invested in soon. You have earned it.

Thanks Tubs for the kind words.
I know what you mean about people choosing price over quality. I was a buyer for Gimbels department store in the 70-80’s and the first thing the customers looked at was the price tag. It was starting even back then. I even remember some older customers complaining about how come we didn’t sell anything made in the US any more. I listened, and brought in a few products made in US , put them on the selling floor,  and no one bought them?  Why, they were more expensive than the imports.

Back to the boat, I don’t know what it looked like when new,  as I am the 3rd owner. Here are a few pictures of what it looked like when I got it last August. I’m sure that the Lone Star purists will say it’s not an original color combination which I robbed from the new Chris Crafts, but I liked it.
I’m also surprised that the early 60’s Evinrude guys didn’t zing me on the wrong Polychromatic Blue for the motor. Funny story on that one, I ordered a bunch Polychromatic Blue spray cans, and got a darker shade than the correct Poly blue. When I started spraying it on, I actually liked it better than the correct blue. I then
found an original 64 catalog (below), and it matched the color of I guess a preproduction ad motor? I said ……ok I’m now vindicated.

I have had brand  new Blue Streak points where when you tightened the screw  to hold the wires on, the assembly would shift and short out. That was a head scratcher.

Anybody notice that Evinrude in the ad pulling that slalom skier at idle throttle setting?  Now that’s power!!!!

Frank, that so funny. You have sharp eyes.
Does this mean that all ads are not 100% truthful….ha ha.
It also looks like a possible dual spring steering setup???

After seeing the “before” pics of your boat, the restoration job looks even more impressive!!   Where did you get the new seat cushions?
