Dear Forum,  I am looking for any information (brochures, documents, hearsay, knowledge) about Elgin Trailers.  I know they were sold by Sears but what company made them in the 1940’s and 1950’s?  Are brochures available?  Has anyone refurbished one? It has a “torsion” axle that I need advice on such as do I need to take the axle apart and inspect what makes the torsion and see if it is worn out?  Mine has the cool looking square box looking fenders.  I can provide pictures if people are interested.

      Sincerely,

      Matt Penn, Tampa, Fl.

Torsion axle might be like used on Scotty Serro trailers. I forget the name of the actual manufacturer of the axle, but it starts with an “L” iirc.  I’ll see if I can find it.

        EDIT: Linco  was  the manufacturer.

I’ve had this yard trailer for years with plan to restore it some day.

Very cool but if that torsion bar ever broke, you would be in a world of hurt.

                Long live American manufacturing!

Here are three pictures of the trailer one being the ID tag.  I love the fenders but they will need some work.  The rear iron work is rusted through in some spots like swiss cheese so I will have to remake it with new metal channel and weld it.  I don’t think I will bend it like the rear of this trailer but weld some angles to simulate the bend.  The tongue looks really thick but is actually only normal width underneath the top skirt part.

Some interesting Sears 231- code trailer info here:

Probably not what you’re looking for ….but you might find it interesting
They talk of a David Bradley Company….and interestingly your serial number has the DB letters….reversed. Who knows?.
