Not an o0mc guy. just picked up a clean JW 12 R for $ 35.00.
any info will help year worth etc.

JW one of the best idling, smoothest motors ever. Just my 2 cents. Like sewing machines.

Not a ton of value, money wise, but reliable and great trollers. Highly undervalued. easy to work on too.

OK, I’m thinking it is a 1956, it is brown (not green) correct?
Is the gas tank clean? If so, shouldn’t take too much to get that purring. Plan on doing the usual fuel system/ignition system/water pump work to make it a reliable daily runner.
Hard to say what it is worth, but you surely did NOT overpay at $35.

Dave I know where you are conning from. You did good on the price. They are very nice motors start in one or two pulls, the good coils, and run like a watch. They are a good motor for resale too since fisherman still use them.

It is a 1956. As noted, great running dependable. Will run super slow and quite. I am working on a ’61 LONG shaft. Low on comp but I will fix it and it will go beside the 850 Merc on the clipper. I have 5 of 3hp at the moment.
Just don’t go backing off the Mercurys Dave, I may need you again.

I have a JW-11 that I picked up this spring. Very nice running little motor. It idles so much better than my 68 Lightwin, even though they are essentially the same powerhead. Better compression on the JW is probably what makes the difference.

Great little kicker motors. Gotta find a few more.
