      Hello all,
I picked up a 67 crestliner 12’ v-hull that came came with the seahorse 3hp. When going over the motor I found a stripped spark plug hole, the face plate is missing, and the prop is kinda rough. I did also happen to find a donor motor that was seized for 50$, a 59 I think. The head is a match and not stripped, the face plate seems to fit, but has the extra hole on the bottom I don’t need. carb kit wont be here until xmas, cork float is damaged. I can’t figure out if the tilt lock is supposed to actually lovk in place or not, and I can’t seem to find the clear replacement fuel line. New head gasket came, and I got both the j4c plugs and the 6 to see what works best. It did have a good spark, ignition components all look like maybe they were replaced. Also the impellar does not look that old, had a tough time with one of the housing screws, had to heat it. 53 y/o grease does not like to come off! Any advice about the tilt mechanism would be helpful, also Is there a bracket that I need that comes off the air silencer? Seems I saw it in a picture somewhere, but doesn’t seem to be on my motor.

I believe the tilt automatically locks down when you steer it all the way around to reverse. Don’t know what you mean by a bracket on the silencer. The hole on the front of the silencer is a fogging port. The snap-in plug is missing from it.

I did notice it won’t tilt in the reverse position, that makes sense now. I’ll have to look into that plug, will it affect performance? I thought there was a bracket that mounted to the silencer that limits the low speed lean adjustment or something.

The hole in the air silencer is for the little metal “plug”, item 56. This plug is provided to make the engine easy to fog…Pop out the plug, pump the fogging oil in while running….
I don’t think the plug will affect performance much, but anything is possible, especially with the fixed jet high speed carb….Item 26 is the limiter for the low speed needle, which isn’t really needed, just there to keep folks from twisting/turning the needle too much and getting confused….
You spent all that time removing the corroded impeller housing, please replace the impeller using a new OEM piece…

I got the covers off the lower leg and cleaned off all the old grease, I think this looks right as far as the sleeve , o-ring, and that top ring go. I have this teflon lube and was wondering if I should coat everything before I reassemble? Also, is it not advised to swap the set screw for a thumb screw for any reason? Seems like that would be more convenient.

I’d just coat everything before assembly with the same kind of waterproof grease you are going to be filling it up with thru the grease fitting on the front. You want it full of grease to keep the water out.

Set screw? The one up top to adjust the steering friction? If a thumb screw will clear everything when the motor is tilted or spun around for reverse, sure, why not!

I’m gonna look into some other screw I can use besides the stock one, maybe something like the vent screw on the gas cap.

Not much room for a thumbscrew once the motor is down in the transom bracket, will have to revisit that later. I removed the stator plate to clean up all the old grease, it was very hard to move the timing arm that works the carb. I some moly around the flange and the cam, but it still feels a bit stiff when I tighten it back down with the four phillips head screws. I don’t really know easy it should be to move from fast to slow.

There should be a bit of resistance as there is a wave washer under the brass retaining ring under the magneto. The wave washer holds the mag in position and these parts should be removed and cleaned of any old grease before applying fresh grease.
