I must start by saying, I’m not Merc guy. I’ve had some over the years but am primarily an Omc fan. The KG7 is in decent overall shape. Even has good, hot spark. Compression is 135 even. The problem I’ve encountered is that the recoil does not grab the ratchet (flywheel nut) Looks like the previous owner had put a large flat washer beneath the nut to keep it from screwing down all the way. The recoil may be the wrong one. This one has no handle on the top. Did they make them that way for this model?Every picture I’ve seen of a KG7 has the handle. Any witty suggestions? Thanks.Ken Hall

Every time the recoil is pulled the pawls go in and grab the center nut of the recoil which jams the unit.Do you have a decent dimension from the recess in the tank for the recoil to the flywheel or nut?

It turns over normally with the auto-rewind starter removed ? ? Put some ink on the starter pawls so you can see where they are catching on the flywheel nut. That should tell you if you need to remove the washer under the nut. . . ❓

Thanks for your reply Gary. The washer was definatly not original. When installed there was only about 50% thread engagement to the nut. l’ll put a dab of "prussion blue" on the pawls and see what we get.Regards.Ken
