I see infinite open when not pushed in…… to kill

when pushed in to kill……. I see around 8 mégohms conductivity….. seems like a lot

anyone know what it should be or can test his kill switch resistance

I found it disconnected inside my "new" to me 9.5hp ???? could be defective

with a normal OPEN state I doubt that disconnecting an OPEN switch would have any impact on the motor’ operation
I can always kill the engine with the choke till I replace the possibly…. defective kill button otherwise if normal I’ll just reconnect it

      thanks

Should be OPEN (no continuity) when not pushed
Should be CLOSED ( continuity) when pushed.

        Otherwise known as infinity ohms(open)
        And zero ohms (closed)

I do see continuity when PUSHED Continuity (closed) at…. 8 mégohms versus infinite while NOT PUSHED

the question is about 8 megohms ….is it normal at 8 megs while PUSHED ?

No,should be zero ohms while pushed. The switch contacts are burned up or corroded or something of that nature. Problem is it won’t stop the motor, right?

Currently my second…"new to me" 9622a has the kill switch disconnected and I am treasuring this purchase for my upcoming dead winter months.

I was curious as to why one would disconnect it so I proceeded to test it and found 8 mégohms when pushed in . A very constant 8 meg
which is strange for a bad contact to be so steady …. anyhow…

I will tear into this "wannabe restored" engine when I get fed up with the snowblower duties 🙂

If I fix it to fast I’ll need to buy another motor and sneak it in the basement 😎 ….. to keep me busy

You can take the switch apart to clean the contacts. Remove it from the housing. Spritz a bit of WD-40 on the underside of the switch and gently pry the rubber boot off the plastic base. You’ll see a copper cup in the boot and two posts in the base. Clean them up and gently put the boot back over the base. Issues with these switches are also related to the wires crumbling with age or the wire core going green with corrosion.

Actually, 8 megs is a very high resistance. When you push the button, the two wired should be effectively connected together (zero Ohms.) It might stop the motor with some resistance, say for instance 6 or 8 or Ohms. But with 8 Megs, no way. Well, never say never. It COULD arc across the high resistance and stop the motor. But don’t count on it.

good news actually double good news …

my nice 75$ CDN (about $55 US $$$) 9622a (could not wait to pop the flywheel….) now has 0 ohms resistance on the Kill switch, after the clean up you suggested.

The little copper cup inside the "easy to take apart" kill switch was just cruddy with black stuff. All contacts were cleaned and switch reassembled to get 0 ohms pushed in. No need to buy one 🙂

secondly…. found badly cracked coils under th flywheel 😀

This is my 2nd "dirt cheap" 9622a found in this condition. I can’t understand an engine now 51 years old not having been serviced in recent years to change the bad coils to keep it going.

Buy the looks of the disconnect kill switch on one point set and 2 side clips…… somebody tried to work this
thing and did not go all the way and gave up on it.

Seeing cracked coils under the fw…. they just nailed the coffin shut and sold it to me 😀

A new 9.5hp is probably 3-4K$ this one will keep going for many more years for $200 total
