      Hi All-

With the help of this forum, I was able to obtain most of a power head with the pistons I need for my 1915 Koban battery ignition rowboat motor. The pistons, rods, and rings appear to be in very nice condition. I’m thinking I should be asking the group for any tips on installing them in the crankcase, as well as any helpful information such as big end bearing clearances at the crank journals, torques, etc. .

      Any information is appreciated.

BTW, I’m still looking for a fuel tank, rudder, and flywheel. I’ll post a WTB in the classified section for those items, also.

      Thanks,
      Rich Roberts

WHen putting the powerhead together – pistons go in through the centre hole, rod end first, then slide it partway into the bore opposite of the one you want to actually insert the piston into.

The chamfers at the bottom of the cylinders are quite generous, and help greatly with compressing the rings.

With both pistons in and up near TDC, you can fit the crank in there and button up the rods.

I used safety wire, practiced with brass first, then used Mechanic’s Wire for real.

        .

Sorry for the weird lighting, I was experimenting with a 400 watt High-Pressure Sodium lamp over my work bench.

        Hope this helps.

            Rich,

I can’t remember if I told you I had a new tank for mine made here in Gainesville. I don’t know if the guy would make another one at the same price but mine is heavy gauge aluminum and I paid $325 about 2 years ago.
