They were made by the Lauson corp. that was bought out by Tecumseh back in 1957-8. The motors were made between the years 1940-1957. Four stroke, air cooled and one or two cylinders. They didn’t need a water pump for cooling. You do need to make sure there is oil in the sump, (30w, non detergent}. You don’t need to add oil to the gas. The points are gapped at 0.020″. If the points are clean and gapped, oil in the sump, carburetor cleaned, and grease in the gear box, the motor should run well. There are lower covers that should be installed as it aids in cooling the motor.

There have been several posts here about Lausons recently. A search should yield some good information. Is yours a single cylinder od twin? Photos and a model number will help.

We are working on a 1947 Lauson Sport King. We did get it running but my husband wanted to make a little adjustment so it would run a bit smoother but now we are back to square one! 😂

Do you have the rear lower cowl?
It is needed for proper cooling.
I’ve got two of them, one runs the other, not yet.
my daughter and I set up at an antique power show.
I’ll run it on a stand (propeller removed) and wait for
people to tell me it should be in water.
