On the adjustable mags, it’s always a good idea to mark its relationship to the block before moving it around. This way you have a reference and can always set it back to its original position.
On this Spartan outboard, I sharpened a small pin punch into a chisel point and stamped a pip mark on it before removing it. This way I can get the timing back to where it should be.

I checked my local Lordco and nope ! Maybe the one near your place has it, but it’s a bit far away 😆 I will check with Grainger here and see what they have for offer. Thanks for the tip on the pip ! I was thinking I won’t have to remove/ disturb the mag plate, At least not at this point. The Plug wires are in need of replacing though. at some point someone has gone in there with a soldering iron . I plan on triming the existing wires close and twisting on the new ones without soldering.
September 8, 2015 at 2:15 am #23454Maybe it’s my salesman but I find Lordco really good for bringing items in from their other stores for me. They can check on their computer to find the nearest item anywhere in BC.
Man, that coil looks expensive if you ever have to replace it! 😯
Here’s a vid of a good running motor like yours with a John Deere pony motor coil installed in it but shouldn’t this motor have a cooling fan on it?
September 8, 2015 at 2:22 am #23456The local Lordco is pretty Lame.
It does have a cooling fan. You can see the blades on the flywheel. What it is missing is the lower shroud.
