Not familiar with the model, but I would guess the drive shaft seal
is bad.Prepare to be boarded!
July 18, 2017 at 6:04 pm #61820I believe that is just exhaust oil residue coming out of the weep hole inn the lower unit. I believe what you are seeing is completely normal and not indicative of any leaks. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I am not familiar with this particular model either, but mist of my motors will weep a bit of oilly residue after running due to unburned oil collecting in the exhaust housing. Extended running at high speed will eliminate most of this. Extended trolling will increase it.

July 19, 2017 at 1:58 pm #61862Before I took this motor out, I checked the gear housing lube and it was a light tan milky color which looked to be old Lubri-plate. I bought a tube of Lubri-plate and squeezed enough in to force out most of the old lube. I had to really lean on that tube to get it in there. The owner’s manual says to use regular automotive 90wt gear oil.If I was to switch to gear oil, I would use Quicksilver. What you see in the picture is residue three days later. This is the same that I see after I use my Mercury KF5. When I first pulled it out of the water thou, it looked like the Lubri-plate gear lube coming out and it was coming out steady for quite a while. I still don’t know what that extra hole is for. I will open it up and top it off again and see what happens. If the gear lube comes out again, I will post another picture for your critique. If it was a seal that needs to be replaced, where could I find a repair manual for this motor?

July 20, 2017 at 1:35 pm #61921Yep! I think you’re right. I might have miss read what I saw and put the wrong stuff in the gear housing. So now the question is, did I do any damage to the lower unit and what is the best way to clean out the gear housing so I can put the right stuff in? And, I still don’t know what the little hole that the lube is coming out of is for. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated.
