One of the hardest parts of this hobby I find is getting parts or motors locally. The parts or motors we find fit our budget yet they are too far away. Or the parts and motors we find are just too expensive locally. Here is an idea for the club to use as a permanent topic in the forum. When a member travels any distance on a regular basis or a long distance on an occasional basis write something such as "I travel between London Ontario and Thamesville Ontario on a daily basis. (1 hour drive) I am willing to pick up your item and bring it home with me for you to pick up In Thamesville" you could also add something such as "I travel to the Niagara Falls area (4 hour drive) a few times a year and I am willing to bring your item back to my place for pickup. What do you guys think of this idea…..I could even work for extended travel if you are willing to pony express an item from one area to another. Patience an trust are a huge factor with this but it could work. In saying that The above two travel plans are mine. I am willing to pick up items in Niagara falls area 3-4 times a year and I will pick up items along the route from London to Thamesville for pickup in Thamesville. I even go as far as Tilbury (sis in law lives there) for closer delivery to the Windsor area. I goes without saying that this would be a free service as I am making these trips anyhow. A little detour is not a big deal for me if it will help out a fellow collector. Of course I could be nuts and this is a stupid idea, but why not offer it up as a pay it forward kind of thing????

Not a stupid idea at all. Last year I received a motor that was carried with great care from Indiana to Michigan to Wisconsin, to Florida. All at no charge by some great club members. At least I think that was the route. But yes I agree a bulletin board type thing would be very welcome.

Like the "ride wanted" board at a music festival! A good perk to sell new members on: a nationwide network of enablers!

We use the member train quite often actually punchbug.

I have picked up motors in the Hamilton and surrounding areas, and we have used members along the way to get them up north to Sudbury, down to the US, and out east and west.

            Cheaper than Canada post eh!?

Yeah, me either. Usually when I get something like a motor, it has to be more like The Underground Railroad, than the Point Express…..And that’s if I can saw my wife’s GPS tracker off my ankle….

                Long live American manufacturing!

Some great responses! I really liked the "enabler" comment. It is like a addiction, my pulse goes up, I don’t think straight, logic goes out the window and I remain broke cuz I spend all my free money on my "fix"!!!!! Damn these ticks, my life is going down the drain because of them. LOL The GPS tracker is another good one! Don’t have a GPS yet but I am sure she has a shock collar sewn into my shirts that sends a jolt to me when I get near any motors I may want.
I am sure many of you suffer the same fate, you know what I mean. She says she is just getting involved in my hobby. Why does her "involvement" always start with the comment "another one??" quickly followed by, how much this time, where you going to put that, how many do you need, where did you have to go for them, is that my birthday present, we are going to have to sell the dogs, no you cant trade them for a motor, you know our grand kids are graduating right, the revenuers were here looking for tax money, we need a new car, did you pay the hydro bill????. What is amazing it is all in one breath. Man she got a set of lungs !!!!!!
Actually I jest she is super supportive and the love of my life……Okay she left the room….. now back to motor talk. LOL
Back to the original question/comment. It is good to know that this happens. So if any of you need a hand on a delivery just ask and I will do what I can. I now know someone will return the favour!!!

We do appreciate it punchbug. I have been a part of the member motor transport train too on both the giving and receiving ends. It is something that happens quite a bit and one of the things that make this a great club.
