      Yozers,
Can I barrel test a ‘38 lightfour? Better question, will the cooling system in a ‘38 lightfour work properly in a barrel run?
I’ve tried it. Motor runs, but no water comes from spout in back.
The water intake is in front of the motor so I’m guessing the pump needs the extra pressure from forward movement to get the water circulating completely.
Water is in the cylinder jacket. I undid the plug and hot water came out. But the cylinders were really hot. At least hotter than I’m used to. Like almost untouchable hot.
      Thanks,
      G

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Perhaps the cylinder water passage are plugged with rust, so the water can’t escape once it gets there….Just a guess…

              Thank you all.
Dave, you are correct. I put the motor on a boat in a lake for a lil’’TNT (test n tune) and the pump worked well. There was a strong steady flow from the spout in the back. It still seemed really hot though. The cylinders did. I could barely touch them. I’ve heard that these run hotter than the other motors I’m used to.
I’m chalking it up as a success anyway cause it ran well for twenty minutes until I turned it off.
              Thanks again
