Hi,
I really loves the old ’50-’60 Lightwins 3, and I own many of these.
Very reliable motors, extremely simple in design and maintenance.
I’m only wondering about the folding models:
The folding models survived only for two years (and one more as "new style" 3) and were not followed in the subsequent production line of the 4hp.
OMC offers the folding Lightwin 4 only in 1969, then stop … WHY?
The idea of a folding engine did not seem so bad to me, and I think they sold a lot of them in 1966, so I ask you:
You knows there was any major reliability problem (for example with the central transmission shaft support) that convinced OMC to remove the "folding" from production and/or the fishermen to stay away from it?
