Does anyone know of a replacement low speed needle for 303945? I haven’t been able to find 303945, but have seen where 335014 is a recommended replacement. But 335014 is a much shorter needle and doesn’t look like it would fit. Has anyone tried it? I believe 303945 is used on all of the Johnson and Evinrude carburetors for the 3 hp to 18 hp from about 1956 to 1959. I have several of these engines that I am restoring.

Dennis, As far as I can see, 335014 is not a replacement for 303945. It’s a totally different style. And just taking a quick look at numbers from ’57, 303945 is only the number for 18 HP, not the 3, 5-1/2, 7-1/2, or 10 HP. And ’59 is different because of the linkages that attach to it. Not sure what all the other differences are…most likely length or maybe even the tip. But the numbers aren’t the same.

You could look for a complete used carburetor on e-bay.  I bet you would fine one.  Most dismantlers aren’t likely to sell all the bits and pieces separately;  they would rather just sell the carb.  Most of those OMC carbs are so plentiful that the price is pretty reasonable.
