I recently purchased a 1962 12 hp Wizard that I understand was made by McCulloch, but I’m not sure who made the lower end for them. Any ideas? Surely this lower end was used on other motors, so I’m trying to find out what to be on the look out for.

That unit was made by Scott / McCulloch. It was common to the 10 and 12 hp motors of the era, as long as the pump was at the bottom of the leg. I believe the lower units were different in the models with the pump high in the leg.

What parts or information do you need?

Well I am just starting out so now just researching where I might find things as I get into it. I know I’ll need a new prop, so any ideas about which props might fit it?

Needless to say, you need the correct prop for the horsepower. Also be aware that Scott/McCulloch props changed rotation when they moved the water pump to the lower position, so don’t fall into the wrong direction trap.

..also, the stock prop has a rubber hub. A stock replacement prop has to come with the hub.

Aftermarket props may or may not have the rubber hub.
