Is there any place in the Los Angeles area to have the magnets on a magneto flywheel re-charged?
July 3, 2018 at 3:52 pm #78958Are you sure they need to be recharged? How old is it?
July 3, 2018 at 5:20 pm #78961What motor are you working on.
If your motor was built after WW-II it will
have permanent magnets. Trying to recharge
them will only damage them and there is no
repair. If you magnets are strong enough
to make a spark increasing the magnetism
wonk make a better spark. That is why you
can take a coil out of one of these and it
will make a really good spark in one of these
with its tinny little magnets.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72KgjVyTPAg

July 3, 2018 at 9:39 pm #78971It is makeing spark. This is a 1930’s PR racing engine. Runs on Methanol. 30 cubic inch. I was told if the magnets are fully charged it will help it start easier. Although, it does start quite easily so I may be wasting my time and maybe creating more trouble than what I think I’m gaining. Thanks for your input.
July 3, 2018 at 11:33 pm #78982increasing the magnetism doesn’t increase the strength of the spark.
How fast the magnets pass over the coil does. The faster a magneto
spins the stronger the voltage. Its why they still use magnetos in these
things.A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

July 4, 2018 at 6:59 pm #79032I think most everyone here would like to see that thing run.
How about some pictures and maybe some video when you get back?A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
July 4, 2018 at 11:55 pm #79044Yes! Very much! Video of it running would be great! Pics better than nothing.

July 5, 2018 at 10:56 am #79057The PR was built with soft iron magnets in the flywheel. A "keeper" should be placed across the magnetic poles whenever the flywheel is off the motor. Other wise the magnet may weaken if the flywheel is dropped. . . 😉
