Looking for a control lever for a 1939 Muncie model 1B. Purchased several that I was hoping would work but after installing the aluminum side covers the lever is unable to operate because it rubs on the front of the side covers. I purchased a nice one from the Penn’s Old Outboards but that one didn’t work either. If anyone can provide any leads it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, FrankJanuary 3, 2024 at 3:55 pm #283649could the cover be the problem?

When moving parts from one motor to another on the early motors it’s
not uncommon to have to make some adjustments to get a replacement
part to fit. I suspect your issue is the underside of the magneto lever is
contacting the side covers. As you have several magneto levers with the
same result it indicates that you need to make and adjustment else
ware. You could remove some material from the magneto lever where
it contacts the magneto plate, remove some material from the underside
of the magneto lever, remove some material from the covers, or a
combination of.

.A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
January 4, 2024 at 8:49 pm #283678The side covers are the correct ones for the Muncie 1B39 motor. The magneto control levers I have are not the correct ones to work with the covers. I try to keep everything as original as possible if I can. Going to a AOMC meet in Framingham, Mass. on the 20th of this month and hopefully obtain more information or eve a picture of what the correct lever looks like. Thanks for the reply.
January 4, 2024 at 8:59 pm #283679You’re correct, the underside of the lever is contacting the covers. The lever that I was trying to use is a nice cast aluminum that may have come from a Neptune outboard which looked similar to the Muncie. I could probably remove some material from the bottom without effecting the look and function of it. I try to keep everything as original as I can. I might just try that if I’m unable to obtain the correct lever. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated!
