      old question…

      does the base ring holding the magneto plate go taper up or down.

      10hp 1956 parts PDF shows taper UP but I think it goes taper down ???

        Flat side up, taper side down.

            Actually, the picture shows the ring as used in other models that used a wave washer (such as 3 hp). It has a step around the edge for the wave washer. The draftsman was too lazy to re-draw it for models w/o the wave washer, figuring nobody would notice. But you and I and others noticed.
