I just bought one of these things and I cannot figure out how it works. What kind of gearing in the lower unit does it have. You can turn the gears on top back and forth but the prop only goes one way. ????? Just curious. Looking for any literature on this.

I believe it has two drive gears on top, on either side of a pinion on the vertical shaft to the lower unit. Mechanism like a rewind starter. One is engaged on the up stroke, the other on the down stroke. Thus the prop always turns in the same direction. . . . 😀

Turning pinion back and forth by hand… prop turns one way.
