Soooo…..I need to rebuild the outer transoms on a couple aluminum boats. The lumber yard stocks 3/4 inch ($116) and 1/2 inch ($88) sheets. I don’t need a whole 4 x 8 sheet so would anyone else be interested in buying into a sheet? I will be at tomahawk and can bring pieces there and distribute them to anyone who’s interested.

What would be a good standard size to cut them into? I’m thinking 2 foot by 4 foot, but I will have to measure my boats tomorrow. Also, I could make even smaller pieces for the smaller boats like the alumacraft R, etc.

Please let me know your thoughts, hopes and dreams. (just kidding about the hopes and dreams….sorry 😆 )

FYI: I noticed last week that My local Menards (Elk River, MN) now stocks marine plywood. Prices a lot cheaper than what you mentioned so you may want to call your closest Menards and se if they have it. I don’t know about the quality.

For the transom pads on aluminum boats, I use exterior grade plywood. Exterior grade uses the same glue as marine grade, however exterior grade may have some gaps in the inner plys. That is not a concern for use on aluminum boats. I just cut to size, stain with the color I want, then before installation coat the plywood with clear polyurethane. The plywood pads last along time and are cheaper than marine grade plywood.
