I didn’t spell it wrong. I meant SHATTER, as in break into pieces. I have seen it a few times, once in a Mark 55, as a matter of fact.

      Long live American manufacturing!

JUST AN UPDATE ON MY CLUNKING PROBLEM. I ROUNDED UP AN ALUMINUM PROP WHICH I TRIED TODAY AND FOUND THE CLUNKING SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED. NOT ELIMINATED BUT MARKEDLY IMPROVED TO AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL.

THANKS TO DAVE BERNARD TO POINTING ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

the only way to possibly shatter a clutch dog on mercs is very high rpms in neutral and then shift into gear.

Is the nose cone on the prop snugged down ? A loose prop-on-shaft can cause clunks while shifting.
