The gear foot CAN be removed without taking off powerhead IF the two
nuts can be removed. Even then i corrosion can make it a job and a hakf,
A wrench can be ground to fit into the space at tower nut. Might be a good idea to heat nut to help matters out. There may be a flap to bend down in order to work on nut.
If gear foot is seized up, look for another from either KE4 or Mark7 (same
        motor different name)
        Good Luck

Thanks Green, started to make a wrench but bent that tab down. then I used a flat punch on the flats and heat and got top nut off. Have moved the gear case about a 1/16 driving screw drivers in. and heat.

what holds the gear case on now is the water tube is frozen in . very common.

My crystal ball shows a parts motor in your future. The water tube can be cut if you can gain access by forcing Gear Foot away from Tower enough to allow use of hack saw Do not be in a hurry to cut water tube….MUCH less work if you can get thing to separate. Try lots of HEAT in area where Water Tube is in Gear Foot.
Seized up Gear Foot likely means WATER intrusion and lack of Preventative Maintenance….easier and cheaper to find a decent Gear Foot than to source and replace bearings seals and shafts. AND GEARS.
If you can ease the Gear Foot off and are able to find an acceptable
replacement assembly a job within your skills. Rebuilding a Gear Foot
would involve a learning curve and a parts chase for all the things
I would expect to be junk. Gear Foot from Up North may have frost
              damaged cases.
KE7 Gear Foot is same except for Drive Shaft.
Illustrated Parts Manual for KE4/Mark7 would help you see what you
              are taking on.

the water tube is in the lower about 2 in or so. If your drive shaft is good i have a lower for you..
