Can anyone tell me the starting point for the low speed and the high speed jet on a 1950 Martin “60” Tillotson carb? I am not sure where they should be on the initial start. I do know they are 1 1/2 out and 3/4 on a Johnson but not sure where to start on this one. I have a Martin “20” that hasn’t been started yet after redoing the carb on that but thinking it should be the same setting on initial startup.

1/2-3/4 on slow speed, 1 on high speed. Note that the slow speed works backwards on those Tillotson carbs.

If its been quite a while since it was lat run
you may need to replace the poppet valve
O rings to get it started.

I have them ordered. How is it to replace them? Ordered them along with the gasket and carb kit but never messed with anything like poppet valves.

No problem if reinstalling old valves.  New ones must be checked for cam follower clearance.

It easy enough. They are behind the intake
manifold. The valves will come right out for
O ring replacement. Its best not to switch
them. If the old ones break apart when you
                  remove them your motor probably
wouldn’t have started. This is a 75 TS but
should be similar to your 60.

Sometimes the valves don’t have o-rings, just metal-to-metal
