Tore apart the carb today on a Martin 75 Model CC with
      a Carter Model "N" carb.

Note in the photos the horizontal solid brass pin in the high speed jet tower.
I don’t see it on the parts "blow-up".
Is that suppose to be there, or did someone make a plug for
      an unknown reason?

Also note the small hole in the bottom of the carb mount flange.
(that I have wire fed through)
Is that suppose to be there?

      Thanks for your thoughts!

I think the brass pin may be a stop for the float to keep it from getting stuck on the bottom of the float bowl.

The flange hole is likely a float bowl vent. Was there a slot in the carb gasket to let it vent to the outside?

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of those, but as I recall the pin is a float drop stop as said. Not too sure about the small hole, but I think it is a puddle drain to drain off excess gas in case of flooding. But I could be mistaken.

          OR..an air bleed? I guess I don’t remember.

The flange gasket does not contact the flange hole in question as the
hole is drilled in the bottom edge of the flange, so I’m guessing
it’s as Frank says, a "puddle drain". I was just wondering if someone was
re-engineering things to get it to run better….. kind of like the old
1970 Valliant slant six my dad had. I drilled a hole in the valve cover
cap and it idled great after that!
            Thanks for your thoughts!

I stand corrected. In spite of the wire, my attention was focused on the hole in the flange, not the one you were asking about.

For whatever it’s worth, Kohler bought Carter’s small carb business around 1985. I believe quite a few parts are interchangeable with the carbs used on K and Magnum series Kohler engines.

Thanks AM, looks like all I might need is a new carb bowl o-ring,
                available for $3 online.
