        If it’s a newer model, they might be metric. You should be able to run a tap in to find the size.

          old model 4hp mdl 40 serial 2692765 everything is standard (not metric) i’ll try taps my 5/16 -18 did not seem to screw in much so maybe it is fine thread

            US MEMBER PAY BY CHECK

            My 1977 Chevrolet Caprice was all metric…I have an early 60s Lightwin made in Belgium. Conversion to metric began longer ago than you might believe.
            Spark Plugs and Zenith Model A Ford carburetor gas adjustment screw are metric because Albert Champion was French as was Zenith company.
            Lighttwin had an opening that did not seem to be metric or a US thread. Had to pay thru nose at OMC
            parts counter for correct part. The right thread screwed in easily. Everything else (metric or US
            would not.
            Mercurys are said to be weird, OMC seems to have
            some hard to understand aspects as well.
