I actually forgot how, years ago, I got the 4-winged nut off that holds down the flywheel. Before I start tearing it up and going the wrong way, is the flywheel nut left handed thread or right handed? What is the best way to remove the nut? I figure once the nut is removed I’ll need to use a small wheel puller to pop off the flywheel.

Second question is a source I can get new ignition parts for motor, if anyone can help.

Thanks for any and all help!

The October 2020 issue of Antique Outboarder had an article on one way to remove the nut in the absence of having the appropriate tool.

taking off is easy but putting on you need to torque it.

I have made a couple from exhaust pipe, nut and a washer.

True that – getting it off is only half the job!

Not sure on the mag; don’t recall from the last time I had it apart, and of course can’t tell now until I get the flywheel off.
Interesting on the tool. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks to all.

When you pull down the Resourses tab and click on The Outboarder link, it just takes you to a page that describes The Outboarder with no way to look up a certain issue, or any issue for that matter. I don’t know; I’d sure like to read that article from October 2020. Problem might be that I’m trying to access it on an iPad.

Here’s a picture I took of that article.

Wow, excellent idea and it worked perfectly without damaging paws. The flywheel came off with a few well placed hammer taps but it became obvious why there’s no spark. Both coil cases are badly cracked and corroded.

Know where I can get coils, points and condensers and is there a way to change the whole thing over to electronic ignition? I’d rather keep the original ignition system but if I can’t find the parts I’d switch it over to electronic ignition if possible.

                        Thanks!
