You say it makes a buzzing sound? Then you should follow the instructions and connect a coil per the instructions. You, once it is all connected properly, will need to rotate the dial, which increases voltage to the coil, at the point, IF the coil works, you will see spark thru the little window, when the spark is consistent and rapid, read, the scale to determine the input voltage and then compare that to the specs in the book.
